New York City is often called the City of New York or simply New York. It is the most crowded city in the States. Times Square is the brightly illuminated hub of the Broadway Theatre District, which is one of the world’s busiest pedestrian intersections and a major centre of the world’s entertainment industry. The names of New York City’s bridges, parks and skyscrapers are famous all around the world.
New York City has been called the most economically powerful city together with the leading financial centre of the world due to Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan. The city is home to the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ, the world’s two largest stock exchanges by total market capitalization.
Manhattan’s Chinatown incorporates the highest concentration of Chinese people in the Western Hemisphere. It provides continuous 24/7 service, the New York City Subway is one of the most extensive metro systems worldwide, with around 469 stations that operate.
New York City’s higher education network consists of over 120 colleges and universities, which include Columbia University, New York University together with Rockefeller University, which have been ranked among the top 35 around the world.
