The World Trade Centre

NYC Attractions

The World Trade Centre is a somewhat completed complex of building which is still under construction in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It is being replaced by an original complex of seven buildings which fall under the same name, on the same site that were destroyed and damaged in the September 11 attacks. Six new skyscrapers, a memorial and museum to those who were killed in the attacks, and a transportation hub are being rebuilt. The tallest building in the United States, the One World Trade Centre, is the lead building for the new complex which reaches more than 100 stories upon its completion in November 2014.

The Twin Towers were the feature landmark of the Original World Trade Centre which had opened on April 4th 1973, and marked as the tallest building in the world when they were completed.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, the Twin Towers where destroyed when Al-Qaeda-affiliated hijackers flew two Boeing 767 jets into the complex as an act of terrorism. The Attacks taken place killed 2,753 people.

Due to the attacks, the structural failure in many surrounding buildings collapsed also. Thereby it took around eight months for the process of cleaning up and recovery of the World Trade Centre, after which rebuilding of the site begun.

The World Trade Centre is one of the points of interest in New York City because of the 9/11 mishap. When visiting, make sure to pop by the 9/11 Memorial and Museum or 9/11 Tribute Centre. If you are looking for something different, make sure to book Manhattan by Sail which is a cruise on a 82-foot double-masted sailing yacht.
